On our way to Silver City, my sister took us to see the White Sands National Monument.

This is Yucca, New Mexico's state flower.

You can see why they call it "White Sands. It is actually not sand, but gypsum which was on the bottom of a dry inland lake. The winds blow the gypsum into huge dunes of white.
